Worldwide Survey of Cocoa Production Costs

The LMC Worldwide Survey of Cocoa Production Costs report assesses cocoa production costs around the world and covers the 15 major cocoa-producing countries:

West Africa
Ghana    Cameroon     Côte d’Ivoire     Nigeria     Togo 

Latin America
Brazil    Colombia    Dominican Republic    Ecuador    Mexico    Peru     Venezuela 

South-East Asia
Indonesia    Malaysia    Papua New Guinea

The analysis breaks costs down into the four main stages of production: 

Establishment
Maintenance
Harvesting
Fermentation/drying 

with each being further disaggregated into labour, fertiliser/chemical, capital and sundry, and administration elements.

Profitability
Profitability of cocoa production in each country is determined from the cost estimates and price data and, using LMC’s cocoa price forecasts, we assess future profitability to 2020/21.
